How do I start searching?

What are keywords? Can AI help brainstorm search terms?

Answer

Conducting a keyword search in the Online Research Portal, located at research.strayer.edu, is always an excellent first step for research.

Build a list of possible keywords using these strategies:

  • Identify the main terms in the assignment or discussion question. For example, if the assignment asks to research staffing in the healthcare industry, you might try words like "staffing" and "healthcare."
  • Consider the readings, lectures, and other instructional content related to the assignment. Identify the synonyms or related terms which cover the same topic as the prompt. For example, if the assignment asks to research CEOs and their strategies to increase diversity, you might try words like "executive leadership" and "inclusive organizations."
  • Prompt an online bot or generative AI to provide you suggested keywords for searching in an academic research database.
