How do I cite a source with no author?

What do I do if there is no author listed on my source? My source is missing an author.

Answer

If a source has no author, use "No author" in the source list entry. Here's a hypothetical example.

No author. February 2020. Training a German Shepherd Puppy. This is an employee training manual at the pet store Pet Supplies R Us.

When identifying an author, remember that it does not have to be an individual's name. An author can also be an organization, committee, or another group name. Here are two hypothetical examples. Your goal is to give credit and to provide your reader enough information to find the source themselves.

1. Human Resources. February 2022. Training a German Shepherd Puppy. This is an employee training manual at the pet store Pet Supplies R Us.

2. American Canine Association. February 2022. Training a German Shepherd Puppy. This is an employee training manual at the pet store Pet Supplies R Us.
