What is a Digital Object Identifier?

How do I find information on a digital object identifier? What are DOIs?

Answer

DOI stands for digital object identifier. They allow researchers to find the same resources at different libraries. DOIs are unique and include letters, numbers, and periods. Many publication types can use DOIs, including journal articles, reports, books, and chapters. Please note that not all resources have DOIs and not all databases record them.
