What is the difference between a head note and a footnote?

Can I cite head notes?

Answer

Footnotes are used in various writing types to add supplemental information. Head notes in Nexis Uni are used to organize the key points of a case and refine legal research. Instead of incorrectly citing the head note, follow the head note to the section of the court opinion where that key point is discussed and cite the court opinion directly.
