Can I research with AI?

Can Copilot conduct research? Can bots find sources? Can artificial intelligence find research for me?

Answer

No, finding research materials is not a task that we recommend generative AI or online bots to complete. By online bots, we're referring to tools like ChatGPT, Gemini, or Copilot. You can try bots when brainstorming keywords for searching.

Here are top reasons why we encourage library databases to conduct research:

  1. Library databases are vetted to include credible, authoritative, and trustworthy sources.
  2. Library databases are vetted to include only relevant content to our courses and degrees.
  3. Library databases provide access to subscription and purchased research content.
  4. Library databases only return results of published writing. They do not ever provide links, quotes, or ideas from imaginary sources.
  5. Library databases are available to you and your instructor. This allows you, the writer, to share links to your sources in your SWS citations. No extra steps to save or share your research.

Give the Online Research Portal a try at research.strayer.edu. You can search many databases simultaneously. You can choose to use AI to brainstorm keywords for searching. Take a look at the searching FAQ linked below.
